A few weeks ago we sent out an email requesting your input into our plans for Carousel GOLD. Over 400 of you responded, giving us thoughtful, insightful, constructive feedback on loads of different aspects of Carousel, including the new tiers for Gold, and your opinions on price. We keep saying the following because it is true: the Carousel community is a truly amazing collection of committed and passionate teachers, and we are extremely lucky to have your support.

It wasn’t all unicorns and rainbows, though. There are always (and will always continue to be) things we haven’t got quite right or could be doing better. And as educators, it will come as no surprise to you to hear that these are the most valuable bits of feedback. We gave consideration to all of it. Most of it we found ourselves in agreement with, but some of it we respectfully disagreed with, or would love to be in a position to implement right away but just can’t right now for practical or other reasons. In any event, we hope that you will continue to share with us your opinions and passion for both Carousel and teaching, so that we can continue to improve in our mission to make teachers’ jobs easier and pupils’ learning outcomes better.

Below are some of the details of what we have changed about Carousel GOLD on the basis of your feedback, but first the positive headlines:

An incredible 89% of you had a positive or very positive impression of Carousel.

(Special shout out to the one teacher who felt it was just alright but would still 10/10 recommend it to a friend.) Remarkably, not one single respondent had a negative or very negative impression of Carousel. We couldn’t be more chuffed that Carousel seems to be doing what you want it to do!

And while most of you were in broad agreement with our proposals for the new subscription tiers, enough of you had concerns about them that it made us sit up and listen. In particular, a small but significant minority felt that the new Silver tier was so “nerfed” (new verb learned, loved, and instantly added to vocabulary) that it could no longer be meaningfully useful. This concerned us, as we genuinely want to ensure that after the launch of Carousel GOLD there remains a free version of Carousel that almost all users can continue to enjoy.

Sooo… in Carousel Silver, we are getting rid of the limit on private user Question Banks. Fill your boots!

We are also upping the number of Community Question Banks that users can access at any one time from 1 to 3, and the number of quizzes per week from 3 to 4.

Having crunched the numbers, we are confident that these changes should be enough to allow almost all light or irregular users to carry on usefully using Carousel free, gratis, and for nothing.

Additionally, because a much higher proportion of you told us you believed you would be paying for a Gold subscription out of your own pocket rather than your school paying for it, we are going to be lowering the price of Gold subscriptions. We don’t want Carousel to be a heavy expense for teachers who want to continue to bring its benefits into their classrooms but whose schools can’t/won’t pay for it.

So, the big question remains: how much is Carousel Gold going to cost?

Well, you’re going to have to wait just a few more days to find that out once Gold goes live. In the meantime, though, make sure you let your friends and colleagues know that they only have a couple of days left to sign up as an early adopter and get free access to Carousel Gold right through the end of the school year and be eligible for special early adopter rates thereafter.

As ever, thanks for your continued support, and watch this space for the big Easter launch of GOLD!

06/04/21 UPDATE: GOLD pricing has been made public. Read all about it here.
